Summary

Yachiyo exhibited for the third time at the 45th Tokyo Motor Show 2017, which was held at Tokyo Big Sight from October 28 to November 5, 2017.

Under the theme of "Let's be the 'key' to cars that bring smiles," Yachiyo introduced fuel tanks, sunroofs, plastic products, motorcycle parts, and more to help people enjoy the fun and joy of owning and operating a car, as well as Yachiyo's technologies to contribute to the evolution of cars.

Additionally, at a joint exhibition held by the Japan Aut-Body Industries Association Inc., of which Yachiyo is a member, we exhibited a disaster initial support vehicle based on the Honda Acty special purpose vehicle series dump truck.

We would like to thank all the customers, companies, and media who visited Yachiyo's exhibition.

Evolution of Fuel Tanks

We introduced the history and evolution of Yachiyo's main product, the fuel tank, which we started producing in 1977. (Photo from left)

Evolution of Fuel Tanks (Japanese Only)

Steel fuel tank

This is the first fuel tank that Yachiyo started mass producing. It was installed in Honda's first-generation Accord as its first use in a completed car.

Plastic fuel tank

In November 1999, we mass-produced Japan's first 4-type, 6-layer plastic fuel tank, which was installed in the first-generation Honda Insight.

Plastic fuel tank (Built-in Fuel tank System)

We have completed a technology with built-in functional parts that decrease drilling process and reduce fuel evaporation by welding peripheral parts such as valves from the inside of the tank, and has been adopted from the Honda Odyssey for North America, which began mass production in April 2017. We reliably comply with environmental regulations that become stricter year by year.

(Reference exhibition)

As the electrification of cars accelerates, we are focusing on developing plastic fuel tanks for PHEVs (Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles). It takes advantage of the lightness that is a feature of plastic, while enhancing its pressure resistance.

Hydrogen tank for fuel cell vehicles
(Reference exhibition)

We are focusing on developing high-pressure tanks with an eye on future cars utilizing the technology and know-how we have cultivated with plastic fuel tanks,. We are working on the development of hydrogen tanks for FCVs (Fuel Cell Vehicles), incorporating new technologies, and will contribute to a low-carbon society.

Large-opening panoramic sunroof (reference exhibition)

We installed a sunroof on an actual vehicle (Honda Vezel) to provide the maximum sense of openness to the occupants of the vehicle. The number of components of the sunroof unit has been minimized to expand the opening area and glass area. This is an example of the expanded variety of roof systems with elaborate designs on open/close procedure of glass.

Manual driving aids (reference exhibition)

Most driving assistance devices that allow people with disabilities to drive are mechanically operated, but Yachiyo is developing driving assistance devices that use electronic control (by-wire). We aim to secure interior space by downsizing the equipment and arbitrarily change of the operation weight. At the exhibition, we installed a manual driving assistance device on the Honda Vezel, and introduced a mechanism that allows the miniature car to respond by rotating the wheels by operating a manual lever, or turning on the headlights by voice recognition.

Lightweight carbon roof (reference exhibition)

The CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic) technology cultivated through the track and field wheelchairs manufactured and sold by Yachiyo has been applied to the roof of the car. We installed a carbon roof on the Honda S660, which greatly contributes to lowering the center of gravity and reducing weight.

Joint exhibition of Japan Auto-Body Industries Association Inc

Disaster initial support vehicle (Reference exhibition)

We developed it based on the Honda Acty special purpose vehicle series dump truck as a tool to prepare in advance for natural disasters that occur in various areas of Japan, and as a reliable partner in the event of a disaster. It is equipped with cranes and winches that are useful for initial activities in the event of a disaster, and is also equipped with loudspeakers and diffused warning lights that can be used for local self-government activities.
